As if losing in the cup semi-final wasn’t enough, Langley Mill’s Sunday side were thumped by Morton Colliery in the Mansfield League. Lowly Morton hammered 305 for 7 from their 40 overs as the Millers slumped to their first defeat of the season.

Batting first, the hosts raced away with opener Blair Matthews hitting 116 and Dave Greaves 55. Only Andrew Bailey escaped any real punishment, his ten overs returning figures of 5 for 56. Jay Holmes, and part-timer Dean Barton were the only other bowlers to taste success, picking up a wicket each.

In reply, Langley Mill were never in with a shout and lost wickets regularly before being dismissed for 132 in the 37th over. Only Grant Ball (24) and Jack Scott (22) posted respectable scores.

For Morton, Paul Holmes bagged 3 for 15, Greaves 2 for 2 and Josh Clarke 2 for 11.

The defeat leaves Langley Mill in third spot in the table on 111 points, 15 behind leaders Frecheville Community and six behind Anston. With the Millers having two games in hand of both, the Millers are still in with a great promotion opportunity.

Scores: Morton Colliery (20pts) 305-7 [40 overs] (B Matthews 116, D Greaves 55, J Lemon 37, S Wood 31, A Bailey 5-56) beat Langley Mill Utd (1pt) 132 all out [36.1 overs] (P Holmes 3-16) by 173 runs
