The sun certainly shone down on us yesterday for the Heanor Festival Fun Day.
Temperatures soared into the very high 20s for the first time this year but that didn't prevent a great turnout for this year's event, held in the Market Place.
The afternoon kicked off with Anna Church, TV's weathergirl, who conducted the official opening ceremony, then toured each of the stalls to say a few words to everyone. We were really proud that Anna mentioned she had used thebestof to check out what was going on for the day and to learn a bit more about Heanor! Proof that we are fast becoming thebest community hub for our local area!
There were loads of stalls and activities for everyone to enjoy, as well as a die-hard group of very enthusiastic ladies (and a few men too) who gave us an amazing display of Zumba, and a troupe of girls from Folk Friendzy who did things I have never seen done with swords and clogs! The climbing wall and bouncy castle were favourites as always and Derby College even brought along a ferret, snake and two bearded dragons which attracted lots of interest (some people were even brave enough to touch the snake, albeit with a lot of persuasion).
We took lots of photos, as did Sharon and David, the Festival organisers, and we'll add these to this blog as soon as we can so you can see the fun for yourselves.
There are still loads of events lined up for the rest of the Festival, including exhibitions, shows, concerts and a football tournament. If you want to see what else is going on, when and where, check out our events listings pages, where you can find out everything you need to know.
And we're going to do it all again next weekend when Codnor gets its turn to put on a show, with the Amber Valley Rotary Club Codnor Fete - See you there everyone.
