Children and staff at Lons Infant School in Ripley are helping the Royal British Legion with this year's Poppy appeal by trialling a new range of Poppy merchandise specifically aimed at schools, including rings, bangles, bugs, rulers and friendship bracelets.

Christine Selden, Community Fundraiser for the Legion in Derbyshire said We are really excited with the new school packs. The range of items is designed to  appeal to primary school children and, together with lessons and speakers from the Royal British Legion, can be an excellent way to introduce the subject of the annual Poppy Appeal and Remembrance to young children. At the moment they are just being trialled in four schools around the county but, if successful, they will be available to all schools next year.’

Dean  Fowler, Chair of Ripley branch said: "Engaging schools is the way forward for the future of the Legion. It's important that children remember past conflicts for a sense of history and this contributes to that. Ripley are a very pro-active branch and we want to raise as much money as we can each year while engaging the whole community. I'm pleased to say that the box has been met with great enthusiasm by the children at Lons''
