Friday 5th August saw the first fundraising Codnor Castle walk run by the Codnor Castle Heritage Trust. Around 35 people from the local area and as far away as the USA gathered at 6pm at the Poet and Castle pub before making their way up to the Castle site.
It was a glorious evening and the audience were given a historic tour of the site with exclusive access inside the fenced areas normally closed to the public.
Re-enactors demonstrated medieval life, weaponry and armour and told tales of the some of the amazing battles that the Lord Greys of Codnor, previous owners of the Castle, had fought in including the Wars of the Roses (Bosworth), Crecy and Agincourt.
The evening then finished with a heart-warming medieval pie and peas meal and free pint back at the Poet and Castle pub. The evening was a great success and about £350 was raised in order to help the Codnor Castle Heritage Trust to preserve the Castle for future generations. Thanks to all who made the night so enjoyable. Look out for more walks in the near future or check out our website - www.codnorcastle.com
