The Flags are out in Heanor to Celebrate the Queen's Jubilee

Heanor and Shipley are awash with colour today after a night which saw hundreds of flags appear all around out town centre and along one of our main roads.

The town centre bunting is thought to be the work of the elusive and anonymous  Love Heanor, a concept which originally started as a facebook group but is increasingly seeing real tangible community action, activity and celebration.

Our local traders have also got firmly into the spirit, with many of them decking their shop windows with red, white and blue balloons and union flags galore, in a co-ordinated effort organised through the Heanor Traders Association.

Whilst the Town Centre is all red, white and blue, Ilkeston Road is more widely embracing, with flags from the whole range of Commonwealth Countries flying proudly in celebration of every single country over which our Queen reigns.

It's all in preparation for the fantastic Queens Diamond Jubilee Parade and Celebration taking place all over Marlpool and Shipley on Bank Holiday Monday.  The organisers are expecting hundreds of local people to turn out all along the flag lined Ilkeston Road between All Saints Church and Shipley to cheer on and enjoy the fantastic parade of the High Society Military Marching Band.

We've posted loads of photographs of the flags and the shop fronts on our facebook page for you to have a look at, but even better is to get up into Heanor Town Centre, browse the shops, get involved and support our whole local community this Jubilee weekend.
