Wendy Backx is busy deciding on what exciting activity to take part in next, following the adrenalin rush she got from the parachute jump she did in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care in June.

Wendy decided to do a Parachute Jump to celebrate her 40th birthday and rather than presents she asked for donations to Marie Curie Cancer Care to enable her to take part in this life changing challenge.

Wendy raised £710 for the charity which will pay for over 35 hours of nursing care. Marie Curie Cancer Care provides high quality nursing totally free, to give people with terminal cancer and other illnesses the choice of dying at home, supported by their families. Although Wendy hasn’t had anyone close to her receive care from a Marie Curie Nurse she said,

“The reason I support the charity is because I know if I had a terminal illness the first place I’d want to be is at home, and Marie Curie Cancer Care makes this possible for so many people across the country.”

Wendy did the tandem jump, which is a combined freefall and parachute descent, strapped to a parachute jumper and she “Loved every minute, It was such an adrenalin rush when we did the freefall, but the best part was when my parachute opened and we were gliding, it was brilliant, I could see all the places my instructor had told me about before and as soon as I landed I wanted to do it all over again.”

If you would like more information about doing a tandem jump, giving it as gift or would like to find out about doing a Static Line Jump or an accelerated Freefall Solo Skydive  near you, then please visit www.mariecurie.org.uk/events/adrenaline/parachuting/ or contact Lucy Barons on 0117 9427132 alternatively email lucy.barons@mariecurie.org.uk  ‘Jumpers’ are asked to raise a minimum of £400 to take part in the challenge.
