Guitarist and composer Richard Durrant (aka The Guitar Whisperer) begins his solo UK tour of Paraguayan Music THE NUMBER 26 BUS TO PARAGUAY this month and plays 11 dates including Ross Corn Exchange on 4th October.
The 11 concerts are an opportunity to discover the beauty of Paraguayan music with stories from South America told by The Guitar Whisperer himself.
The dates starting in Sussex on 14th September and running until 5th October 2024 include performances in Angus, Anglesey, Cornwall, Herefordshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northumbria, Sussex, Wiltshire and Yorkshire and feature music by the greatest guitarist/composer of all time Agustín Barrios Mangore.
In 2011 Durrant recorded an album called The Number 26 Bus to Paraguay. This immediately led to an invitation to play a special concert in the Teatro Municpal, Asuncion, Paraguay where Barrios himself had played. Durrant’s album became the first all Barrios recording by a foreign artist to be released in Paraguay. The awards and accolades followed including guest appearances as soloist with the national orchestra, concerts throughout Paraguay, appearances on radio and television and collaborations with Paraguayan artists such as Kike Pedersen, Rolando Chaparro and Ismael Ledesma. Now, after five highly successful visits to South America a trilogy of albums and a book of music and stories from his travels Durrant is widely recognised as one of the world’s leading interpreters of Barrios' music.
Durrant’s 2024 UK tour will feature works by Agustín Barrios, Juan Duarte, Felipe Sosa, Kike Pedersen, Quirino Baez Allende and Durrant’s very own The Girl at the Airport -a romantic evocation of his adventures written for guitar and strings and performed on this solo tour with backing recorded by the City of Prague Symphony Orchestra.
Richard Durrant, now recognised as one of the leading interpreter’s of Barrios’s music, will perform the beautiful Paraguayan guitar pieces and share stories from the central southern cone of South America.
He also promises to explain how all this began for him on a number 26 Brighton Corporation bus!
