What will give your young ones or those young at heart a giggle is food themed to Halloween, so we’ve come up with a few dead simple munchies that will be just the thing to bring on a few smiles.

1. Banana ghosts and tangerine pumpkins

Really quick and easy to make. You can use celery cut into small julienne strips or pretzel sticks for the tangerines’ ‘stalks’. For the banana ghosts, use mini chocolate chips for the eyes and the normal size chocolate chips for the mouths (stick with a blob of melted chocolate).

2. Witch broomsticks

Make the broomsticks with pretzel sticks, string cheese and chives. Cut each string cheese stick in half. Carefully press a pretzel stick into the uncut side of each cheese stick about 1/2 inch deep. Make the bristles by using sharp scissors, cut thin slices that are about 1 inch in length. Gently tie a chive around the top portion of the string cheese and snip off the long ends. Serve them on a spooky Halloween Spider Web plate.

3. Pizza mummies

You can make these mummies with whole wheat muffins or small round pitta bread. Heat the oven to 350º F or 180C for a conventional oven and 160C for fan ovens. For each mummy, spread a tablespoon of pizza sauce onto half of an muffin or pitta bread. Cut olive slices in for the eyes and green onion or pepper for the pupils. Lay strips of cheese across the muffin for the mummy’s wrappings and bake for about 10 minutes until the cheese is melted and the bread is toasted.
