The UK is in the middle of festival season. From the big hitters of The Isle Of Wight Festival and Glastonbury to the lesser known Standon Calling and Lode Star Festival, the country is gripped with the wonders of live music, courtesy of the world’s finest artists.

I’m currently writing this as thousands of revellers from the V-Festival are making their way home after 3 days of excessiveness in Chelmsford and Staffordshire, and after seeing the prices for tickets and the unimaginative and ‘safe’ line-up I think it’s high time to write about 3 local music festivals happening soon that will put a smile on any music lovers face!

First up is The Hertford Music Festival. Not your normal festival where you camp for a weekend, but still a celebration of music from Hertfordshire’s talented mix of artists and bands, The Hertford Music Festival is an opportunity to embrace the town and have a jolly good time! With over 20 Hertford venues ranging from pubs and clubs to restaurants and coffee shops opening their doors and giving centre stage to local musicians, The Musical Mystery Tour (which is part of The Hertford Music Festival) is a great way to spend a Sunday (especially as there’s no work the next day!)

The following weekend is the ever popular Wilkestock Festival, and sees some really exciting acts taking place at the countryside venue between Watton and Walkern. Chas from Chas n Dave fame brings his band to entertain the crowds as does The Correspondents who are headliners at Wilkestock. The line-up also includes 3-piece local band The Folk (you can read the blog we wrote on them last year here) and DJ duo, 2 Bad Mice. Wilkestock is a celebration of music and is fast becoming a date on the UK festival scene not to be missed, plus it’s non-profit!

Weekend of 30th August – 1st September. Website.

Finally is a brand new festival that anyone at Standon Calling may already have seen. Folkstock is happening on the 21st September at Aldenham Country Park and is all about acoustic singer songwriters! Beautiful vocals and melodies will greet anyone who comes along to Folkstock and acts including Lucy Ward and Reg Meuross will ensure anyone looking for a late summer music festival injection, will get their kicks from Folkstock!

Saturday September 21st . Website.

Thanks for reading, enjoy the music!
