Love it or loathe it, if you own a dog, it needs walking!
In order to help make your dog walk around the Hertford area more enjoyable, we're launching a new blog series to give you the nicest dog walks around Hertford. Enjoy!
The first dog walk in this series is a favourite of many dog walkers locally, and it's just outside of Hertford. The Post Wood loop is a beautiful woodland walk that will take roughly half an hour, but can be 45 minutes if Presdales Field is taken in as well.
If you drive to the start of the walk, parking is available on Post Wood Road, accessible from London Road next to the Hertford and Ware border. From here just walk up to the gate and you're at the start of the loop.
From the start of the loop it makes no difference which way you go, left or right. Either way you're at the bottom of the hill and it's a fairly gentle walk uphill to reach the top of the bowl, then it's a stomp back down to where you started. Once the first couple of hundred yards of uphill is out of the way, the ground levels out to a more gentle slope.
The great thing about this walk is the fact it's extremely dog friendly, the whole wood is fenced in, so your loved one can't go too far, but there're still plenty of places they can run and explore. Lots of dog walkers use this loop, so bear that in mind if yours isn't great with other dogs.
A real treat for dog walkers using this loop is the beautiful bluebell fields that spread across the wood throughout April and May, there's photo opportunities galore at this time!
Below is an image of the walk including where to park your car. This walk is a personal favourite of mine, our Springer loves the space to run and explore, and it's definitely her favourite of all the walks!
