Is your body too acidic?

What can make your body too acidic?
Many of us lead stressful lives. Do you rush around trying to get everything done? Do you ever stop to think what pressure that puts on your body. Maybe you grab a quick snack to keep yourself going, without really noticing what you’re eating. Too much processed food can easily raise the acid level in your body as well as increasing cravings for more of the ‘bad’ ingredients you’re consuming.

How about that mug of coffee? How many mugs of coffee do you get through in a day? Lovely though it is, it’s also adding to the acidity in your body, particularly if you put sugar in it.

Do you, like me, treat yourself to a glass of wine, G&T – whatever you feel will help you relax at the end of a tough day? Yes – that’s acidic too. How disappointing!

What does raised acidity do to your body?
Many of us have experienced acid reflux and indigestion when we’ve eaten something we probably knew we shouldn’t. But what else should we look out for? Have you been experiencing any of the following lately?

  • Tiredness, however much sleep you’ve had.
  • Weight gains that you cannot easily shift.
  • Poor sleep patterns.
  • Allergies.
  • Poor skin condition.
  • Muscle aches.
  • Dental issues.
  • Weak immune system.
There are other signs – we’re all different. Maybe you recognise that it would be a good time to stop and think about how well you really feel right now, ahead of the winter bug season. None of us wants to leave ourselves open to even more serious health issues if we can do something about it.

What can you do if you want to reduce your acidity level?
You probably know some of what I’m about to say! Much of it comes back to the basics.

  • If you know you eat too much processed food, it’s a great idea to try to cut it down.
  • Similarly, less sugar, alcohol, coffee etc would help immensely. ‘Sober October’ could be a good motivator and encourage groups of family and friends to keep each other motivated.
  • If you recognise that you should be doing more exercise, there’s much more open and available to us now. What would you enjoy that you can keep going regularly?
  • If you feel stressed on a daily basis, can you set some boundaries and cut down on being a serial ‘people pleaser’? That can be tough, but I’ve found that makes a huge difference to me.
I have kept this quite simple, but know that some of you won’t find it easy to adjust. Perhaps a ‘kick start’ nutritional supplement may help some of you? It’s one I go back to when I feel my body needs it.
