On Sunday 18th June we will be celebrating the 124th modern day Father’s Day, but where did it originate from? Well, it’s all thanks to a lady called Sonora Smart Dodd, the daughter of a single parent (father) family from Spokane, Washington, USA. who in 1909 thought that fathers as well as mothers should be honoured with their own special day. With agreement from the local authorities the first modern day Father’s Day took place on June 19th 1910, although it took another 56 years to gain any official recognition. It is now celebrated in numerous countries worldwide.
So, as well as treating Dad to a drink or a meal at any of the many bars, cafes and restaurants in Hertford and Ware you might want to check out some these local events taking place on the day.
