A drop of sunlight falls from the sky and produces a magical flower with the power to heal. Gothel (an old witch) has been using it for centuries to retain her youth, but when the pregnant Queen of Corona falls ill, the flower is picked and used to heal the Queen.
Rapunzel is then born and her hair contains the magical power of the flower. Gothel sneaks into the castle and cuts a lock of the baby princess’s hair, but the hair turns brown and loses its magical powers, so instead Gothel kidnaps Princess Rapunzel and raises her in a hidden tower.
Forbidding Rapunzel to ever cut her hair, Gothel continues to use the magical powers to stay young. Rapunzel’s wish to escape into the outside world finally comes true when she meets the good-hearted thief, Flynn Ryder.
