Remembrance Day 11th November 2010
Today is a day when countries in the common wealth, traditionally remember those who sacrificed their lives in the armed forces in War, although it is also remembered by non- commonwealth countries too.
November 11th is the day that officially observes the end of World War One in 1918. Traditionally the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month. Also known as Poppy Day as Poppies are worn to represent the day and 'Armistice day'.
Hillingdon this year will mark the day with a two minute silence at the Civic Centre forecourt in Uxbridge at 11am.
The Mayor of Hillingdon will also join Military leaders of the local branches of the Royal British Legion for this remembrance. Maroon rockets will also be launched to start the two minutes and then again at 11.02am for the end.
