Thousands of people, both locals and people from further afield, turned out onto the streets of Barwell to watch a host of colourful floats and a marching band make their way around the area. Then, attention turned to the Barwell Junior School field, which had on it a number of stalls, fairground rides and much more.
There was also a number of arena attractions, which included:
I had the honour of doing the PA announcements throughout the afternoon (and thanks to my colleagues at Castle Mead Radio for enabling that and providing the equipment, etc), which included doing live interviews in the arena with such luminaries as the World Gravy Wrestling Champion (for there is such a thing) and fundraiser extraordinaire Joel Hicks, who is a top bloke (visit the website of his wonderful charity foundation: http://alwayswithasmile.com/)
All in all it was a top day and my thanks go to everyone who helped make it such a success: all of my friends and colleagues on the Barwell Carnival Association, the local community groups/charities, and so on. And, though this year's event has only just happened, the planning for next Summer's spectacular begins in earnest.
Soon, I'll bring you news of our 'Share the Wealth' evening and 'our 'Family Variety Night' which are coming up in the next few months. In fact, apart from Carnival-related events, there are a number of other really exciting things coming up soon in Barwell, of which I'll bring you details, right here, very soon.
So, do please, stay tuned!
