The 2011 Burbage Carnival will this year be held on Fathers day - 19th June 2011. The venue for the main event will be Burbage’s Britannia fields, which was once part of the ancient three field system which operated in Burbage during Medieval times. The hedge row at the western hedge of the field represented one boundary and is one of the oldest hedges in Burbage at least 600 years!
The Burbage Carnival 2011 organising team is pleased to announce that Mr Andy Lauder (local Gardener and IT Systems developer) has been voted in as Vice-Chairman. Andy will be helping the committee to make sure this event is a truly wonderful day for the area. Mr Harvey Brown, Chairman of the Carnival Committee said “we are pleased that Andy has agreed to help us to keep this event at the very top of the local events calendar”.
The theme of this year's Burbage Carnival is 'Television through the ages' and it seems to be proving very popular, with lots of really great ideas being talked about. The date for the Carnival Prince & Princess competition has been set for 27th March 2011 from 12.00, at the garden room of the Red Lion Pub, Windsor St - Burbage. Matt Wood said “we are really looking for some great personalities in the village to come forward. This event is not a beauty pageant – it is really all about personality and skill”. Application forms are available on the Burbage Carnival website .
A prize will be arranged for the winners of the carnival prince & princess competitions – worth several hundred pounds thanks to our local bestofhinckley photographer - Rebecca Dawe Photography.
