It was a really fantastic achievement for charities, which are having a tough time in the current economic climate. The fireworks display and bonfire, one of the best ever seen in Burbage, was held on the ancient three field system which has operated in Burbage since Medieval times and existed during the times of the famous Guy Fawkes. The hedge row at the western hedge of the field is one of the oldest hedges in Burbage, being at least 600 years old.

This year’s event had a special competition to create a guy, which raised further contributions of money as visitors arrived to the event, donations were made for the best guy. Corey & Bailey Parker were joint winners in the child category and Danielle Hibbit & Phil Clarke were joint winners in the adult category. Prizes will be awarded to the winners at the Burbage late night shopping event this Friday - 26th November.

Mr Harvey Brown, Chairman of the Burbage fireworks and Carnival team said “Thanks must go to all the hard work of countless volunteers including Burbage Rugby club and Burbage’s famous Britannia Scouts who helped create this great charity community event for 2,000 members of the public. This year has been a wonderful year for Burbage with the best ever carnival and fireworks events that the village has seen for many years. Many charities will benefit from these events at the annual awards ceremony – to be held early next year.

Parish Councillor Ian Coe said “The firework display was like a big garden party, but on a much bigger scale - it had a really nice community feel. As part of the organising committee, I would like to appeal to members of the community to volunteer at some time and join us in creating some brilliant and fun community events next year”.
