The Dr Hadwen Trust tirelessly campaigns to replace the use of animals in experiments in laboratories by funding cutting-edge technological alternatives.

Pioneering research has been enabled by grants from the Dr Hsadwen Trust into common illnesses such as cancer, Alzheimer’s, asthma, kidney, heart and liver disease and diabetes.

I am not a rat, a rabbit or a dog and I do not want these and other animals suffering pointlessly as they currently do. I am pleased that DHT is there to fund research from a fresh angle. We will all benefit from the phasing out of animals in research. This is why I love the Dr Hadwen Trust.

The work that this charity undertakes is, quite simply, medical research at its very best. Most charities that undertake research do so with the ability to publicise their cause with huge advertising campaigns, but forgetting to mention the suffering they cause to animals in their quest for advancement. The DHT is a different beast. Its ethos is to develop techniques and understanding of the illnesses and conditions afflicting people by providing valuable financial assistance to university departments with the specific aim of furthering knowledge with a range of different and innovative techniques, but without causing harm to any animal along the way. The projects that they have helped to fund have had some of the very best researchers working on them and are endorsed by some extremely eminent clinicians. As a healthcare professional, I am extremely supportive of this work and proud to tell people that my financial contributions are furthering medical causes in the most positive way possible.

This is the most fantastic organization, who do vital research demonstrating that animal testing is useless and does not contribute to medical research. Animal testing is totally unreliable for human research, therefore we are torturing these innocent animals for no reason at all. Animal testing will not save the lives of our children. DR HADWEN TRUST prove daily that we do not need to test on animals. Human tissue and models are the only reliable method to further our knowledge and save our lives.

Advancing technology has now proved that animals are very different creatures from humans, reacting differently to diseases and drugs. What I love about the Dr Hadwen Trust, is that donated money is only given to science researchers, if they promise to use it for replacing animal experiments currently in use. Also because they often work in, or with education facilities, universities etc, it encourages the drive forward into the future, of the leaving behind of animal experimentation as an outdated venture.

I became aware of the Dr Hadwen Trust several years ago when I used it as a mail order outlet for hair products which had been developed/produced without animal testing and suffering. I then became aware of the bigger picture and the unique and downright courageous work carried out by DHT in working to develop research methods and practices world wide which eliminate the use of animals and by replacing this with technology in fact are found to be more accurately geared towards finding cures for human illness and disease. This is something very special and very unique and includes research into more human methods of slaughtering meat animals. Something very relevant to and so far completely disregarded in the current debate over horse meat found in beef products. Hitchin should celebrate this truly unique and important local business which I have no doubt will ultimately achieve world wide acclaim for the human and visionary work which it carries out on behalf of the rest of us. three cheers for Dr Hadwen and those who are continuing his legacy and a brave enough to carry out work the rest of us would rather not know anything about.

Dr Hadwen Trust has for many years, been attempting to find alternatives to animal experimentation. As such, they have been instrumental in raising money for medical progress - based on non-animal use - and highlighting the alternative means of finding medical cures to many diseases and illnesses.
They are a very worthy charity, deserving top marks and further recognition for their goals and objectives.

There are businesses and charities which endeavour to end the suffering involved in animal research; there are businesses and charities which endeavour to end the human suffering of dreadful illnesses and diseases. The Dr Hadwen trust is the only one I know which combines the two objectives which, I believe, has benefits for both. In developing facilities in which medical research can be carried out without the use of animals the trust clearly demonstrates that this is perfectly viable. In promoting new methods of research and new techniques they are overcoming the problems of mismatch when results obtained on animals are applied to humans.
There is an enormous amount of work to do but all those involved have the vision and determination to continue and succeed. I wish them well on their journey.

Dr Hadwen is one of a very few research institutes which is dedicated to ending the use of animals in experiments. It is actively working to provide new, non-animal methods of research - this is both more humane and also, probably in most cases, able to provide better results for the benefit of humans, since it is well-known among scientists that what works in animals often does not work in human beings. Because of this millions of animal lives are destroyed 'for the sake of it'. Research data is often not shared with other labs. leading to repeated experiments for no reason on these poor, helpless creatures.
In a civilised society there can be no torture, cruelty, abuse or killing of animals in experiments - no debate. Treating animals like that is unspeakable and evil. Dr. Hadwen is leading the way forward towards the end of animal experiments and in the process it is providing research models which give better results for the treatment of human illness and disease. Dr. Hadwen Trust should be admired, congratulated and wholeheartedly supported in every way. My star rating is 5 - the best!

Brilliant organisation doing hugely important work - encouraging the medical community to use alternatives to animal research. Not only saving millions of animals from unnecessary suffering, but also ensuring that treatments being developed are effective on humans rather than animals - so everyone is a winner! Five stars!

The Trust's work benefits human and non-human animals in several very important ways: By funding humane medical research, it enables cheaper, faster and more accurate results, resulting in improved medical and surgical care for humans. Animal experiments cause untold harm to humans resulting in death or adverse reactions from drugs like Thalidomide, Manoplax, Opren, etc. They also prevent people from benefiting from drugs that would have helped them but proved harmful in tests on other creatures. Vivisection causes unimaginable suffering to the animals and brutalises the people involved. The work of the Dr Hadwen Trust is furthering progress on all fronts: science, compassion and civilisation.

I thing the Dr Hadwen Trust is a great charity because it carries out research into a large variety of human diseases without any use of animals. So many people think that animal testing is necessary to find cures to human ailments but the Dr Hadwen Trust has proven time and time again that this is not the case.

The Dr Hadwen Trust gets straight to the heart of the controversial subject of using animals for medical research. What I like about the Trust is that it has moved the argument to a much higher level from the usual debate between the rights and wrongs of animal testing for the advancement of medical research.

What the Dr Hadwen Trust has done, for many years, is to directly fund medical research, which is so very important for the Nation’s Health, by encouraging scientists to discover alternative testing models without the use of animals. This is a quantum leap and an even greater bonus for us humans because the results of research without using a single animal have proven, and continue to confirm, that these alternative methods produce more statistically sound models, are more robust and are totally relevant to humans. This is because, fundamentally, humans and animals do not have the same physiology, full stop!

The ground-breaking models including computer-based 3D models developed by the scientists who have been totally funded by the Dr Hadwen Trust use only human tissue. This human tissue does not come at a high cost as the tissue is usually an unwanted by-product of, for example, as part of a routine operation on a person to remove cancerous tissue.

I truly hope that the Dr Hadwen Trust is recognised for what it has done in the past and what it can do for us and animal welfare in the future. It is unbelievable that it continues to fund important medical research without any Government, European or other external funding.

The Trust is a very small organisation – a team of 6 people including the CEO - which delivers BIG! Everything it achieves emanates from its team and Trustees. None of the fantastic achievements and advancement in medical research without using animals would have happened without income and legacies from its loyal supporters and volunteers. Every penny that it spends is carefully thought through as to how it can gain a maximum return on investment. It does not have large budgets to spend on advertising and television commercials and that is why many people in the UK have not heard of the Dr Hadwen Trust.

Should the Dr Hadwen Trust win this accolade of The Best Local Business, then this would go a very long way to helping it increase public awareness of its achievements and future aims. Surely, that would be a good thing for all of us!

This wonderful charity campaigns simultaneously for two extremely important issues, animal rights and medical research, and is making progress on ending scientific animal experimentation whilst continuing to achieve medical breakthroughs, both of which should matter to us all. The recent establishment of the world's first chair in animal replacement science is further evidence of the fantastic work they are doing. I am proud to support their work - keep it up!

I love Dr Hadwen Trust because their work not only protects animals from cruel and needless experiments, but is changing the way we test the safety of new medicines, by creating cutting edge technology and software.

They were formed forty three years ago to raise funds to build, staff & equip an institute in the UK to provide facilities for scientists & other research workers in the field of medical research without using animals.
They have achieved that by announcing a world first initiative of having a Professional Chair in Animal Replacement Science.
They will collaborate a global search for ethical, human-relevant alternatives to animal testing.
This will benefit humans as animals are a different species & have very different make up.
They fund research into Alzheimers,, schizophrenia, rabies, epilepsy to name a few. The Alzheimers 3-D cell cultures are helping to replace 20 years of research using mice.
They have funded scientists who have developed a three-demential model.

Pat Sykes: The only valid medical research is that which uses compatible human tissue. DHT constantly proves this, whilst saving thousands of animals from needless suffering. I love the fact that non-animal research is the 'norm' in so many UK universities, financed so generously by DHT and its supporters. This ensures that many generations of medical scientists will demonstrate for a long, long time that this is the only safe way to develop medical treatments.

Dr. Hadwen Trust have remained true to their objective to raise funds, build, staff and equip an institute within the UK to provide facilities for scientists to carry on their researches the only true way forward, without torturing animals. They also encourage, support and assist throughout the medical world to seek out and discover new treatments.

It brings the only meaningful way forward firmly into focus in mainstream science.

They issue their own News magazine so supporters can follow their latest successes but I think their genuine popularity is reflected by the ways kind people raise funds and awareness by their marathons, climbs, street collections and so forth.

Well Done!

May it always succeed so that cruel vivisection will become a horror of the past.

The Trust benefits both people and animals by funding medical experiments and research. They do not use animals, and their work is proven to be more valuable to the study of human illness and disease than research that does use other species.

The cruelty involved in using animals to test drugs and products is totally unacceptable in the 21st century. DHT research alternatives to this. Millions of animals are tortured with very little cures for anything as the outcome. Many experiments are repeated time and time again just so a new student can try them even though they have been proven worthless. I first heard about DHT when a friend asked me to sign a petition. Being an animal lover I knew a few people who would sign but what truly amazed me was the amount of people who asked to sign. People where actually knocking on my door to sign becasue they had heard I knew of an alternative to vivisection! I filled 20 sheets x 20 signatures per sheet in a matter of days with hardly any effort on my part. This really was an eye opener for me as I did not realise the amount of people who want an end to vivisection. within a few years the DHT will be a household name in the UK and possibly in the world because they are about compassion and that cannot be beaten.

The Dr Hadwen Trust is one of the few reliable charities in which you feel confident that any money donated is effecively spent towards the aims of the charity. And what laudible goals the charity has; that of benefiting both humans and animals through the development of cutting-edge non-animal research methodologies. Through provision of research grants, and the promotion and education in the scientific, political and public communities, the DHT has become one of the world leading exponents of non-animal research and is consulted internationally for its expertise in replacement research methods by scientists, governments, education, animal welfare organisations and industry. Few charities can be as proud of their achievements than the DHT!
