The names of the 453 men from Hitchin who lost their lives in World War 1 will be read out in a non-denominational service at St Mary's Church on Sunday afternoon.
One hundred years ago, war clouds were looming and no-one knew the devastation that would be wrought across Europe.
Like many towns, we have a strong tradition of respect for those who gave their lives in conflict and this service will include British Schools Museum reading the names of their former students among that number.
Writer and sax player. Brought up in Hitchin and - apart from uni and some ensuing madness of life in London - I've always lived here.
