It's just been announced that a discount retailer will be taking over the old B&Q site on the corner of Walsworth Road near the station.
For most of us, any use of the site is set to be an improvement to the look of Hitchin as you drive towards the town centre from Letchworth, or leave the railway station behind.
Let's hope they sort out the car parking and the landscaping around the outside of the building.
In the same corner of Hitchin, the Tesco Express store manager appears to be a peace-maker. Latest news from the Advertiser here (http://www.theadvertisergroup.co.uk/Daily-News/Tesco-Express-manager-pledges-to-work-with-the-community-24052012.htm) would indicate that she wants to work with the local community.
Meanwhile, rumours abound that demolition is about to start on the old Burrs/Lisles/Marshalls Esso forecourt on Old Park Road. McCarthy and Stone are planning to build retirement apartments on the site, opposite the entrance to Waitrose car park.
