Hitchin BID will continue for a second five-year term after a substantial majority of local businesses voted in favour of its renewal.
But what difference will that make to people and businesses in Hitchin?
Looking back on the work of the last five years, the BID has actually achieved many things which might otherwise have been missed.
Have you seen the Town Rangers? That team patrols the BID area for 120 hours each week. They keep in touch with the community and businesses, keeping an eye on graffiti, litter, intensive cleaning such as chewing gum removal, antisocial behaviour and shoplifting.
Think about all the promotional events that have taken place, especially in the Market Place - most of those would not have run so smoothly without the help of the Town Rangers.
There are lots of offers available to BID businesses but, for me, what the BID has done is help make Hitchin a better place to live, work and shop. We're all part of this community and the more we work together, the better our town will be. It's already pretty great!
