We were very fortunate to be asked along as guests of Foreman Laws Solicitors in Hitchin to a Charity Boxing Evening held at Hitchin Town Hall last week.

I have to admit, Boxing is not a sport that I particularly like to watch but am always happy to be open minded about things so we got our glad rags on and headed on into town.

Les Jefferies had done an amazing job - the Town Hall had been transformed into a boxing ring with tables around which were sponsored by businesses including Foreman Laws, Arborcare, The Radcliffe Arms, The Ivory and Hermitage Road.

It was rather male dominated but hey, who am I to complain!

After the meal, an auction was conducted which included:

Lot 1. Set of Chef Carving Knives

Lot 2. Dinner for 2 at Just 32

Lot 3. Bottle of Champagne

Lot 4. One days hire of a Black Bear Harley Davidson

Lot 5. Dinner for 2 at the New Hermitage Road

Lot 6. Water colour picture of St Marys Church

Lot 7. Signed Jason Leonard print

Lot 8 Signed Boxing glove in glass cabint Lennox Lewis,Chris Eubank,Ricky Hatton

Lot 9. Signed England Shirt Jack Wilshere Arsenal and England

Lot 10 Large Hamper from Waitrose and Hasleys

Lot 11. Two tickets for Chelsea Home Game to inc lunch and drinks beforehand

So, onto the boxing, only there was a problem. The Doctor assigned to the evening hadn't turned up and without a Doctor no boxing was going to happen!  Luckily a quick phone call, a taxi ride and a local Doc stepped up to the mark (and donated his fee) for the evening so Bout 1 got underway.

I was impressed by the professional way that the fights took place.  The ref very thorough, all boxers had head gear and the evening raised £3,000 for charity.  £2,000 went to North Herts Amateur Boxing Club and £1,000 towards the Hitchin Christmas Lights Appeal.
