The first Hitchin Sport Relief Mile took place in the grounds of Hitchin Boys School last weekend on a glorious sunny afternoon.
Organised by Howard Davies from Tri One, there were various stalls including Tiny Charmers, Looney Balloony and The Pilates Pod. (My daughter loved her alien balloon hat). Bouncy castle, delicious food by The Radcliffe Arms and warm up sessions by Back on Track.
I decided some months ago to enter the whole family (aka Thebestofhitchin) - 3 months seemed long enough to do a bit of training, so son, hubby and step daughter got entered for 6 miles and myself and 10 year old daughter for the 3 miles. The 6 milers in the family actually did some training and I'm hugely proud to say that my son ran the whole 6 miles without stopping and came in reasonably fast too.
So when the afternoon came around, needless to say Tanya and I had done no training whatsoever. But in the spirit of the day, we set off to do our 6 laps of the field. I admit, we did walk part of the course - we worked out a system between the various arrows walk then run, walk then run and DEFINATELY run when the section with the crowd came around!
It was great to see so many people there - all doing their bit for Sport Relief and it was really a brilliant community afternoon.
On line bookings sold out but people were still entering on the day and the lovely weather meant that people came out to cheer the runners/walkers/toddlers on. Nice to see so many families taking part too.
So huge congratulations to Howard for organising such a great event. And a big thumbs up for my lovely family - it was a great afternoon followed by a delicious sunday roast at The Victoria Pub on the way home!
