From the 12 March to the 30 April, Hitchin Museum and Art Gallery is proud to present a major exhibition on the fascinating subject of corsets.
Taking in loans from major collections around the country, as well as material from the museum’s own collection, the exhibition looks at the history of this controversial garment from its possible origins in Ancient Crete to the present day.
On display are replicas showing styles from the 1600’s to 1910, as well as originals and a huge display of advertising ephemera from the heyday of corsets (1880’s – 1950’s). There is also the chance to try a corset on, and see its effect on the figure!
The Museum is open from 10am to 5pm, daily except for Wednesdays , Sundays and bank holidays.
