Tell us who you are and what you do

Everyone at Character Wines loves wine and we have set ourselves a mission to find intriguingly different quality wines from around the world; we travel where our interest, curiosity and desire takes us.
Our first stop was India; our second destination was Austria and our most recent the Tejo region of Portugal; very different countries, very different wines, but all equally interesting. All our wines have a great story behind them and have been carefully selected by our Master of Wine for our customers to enjoy.

Why do you do what you do?

We are driven by our love of wine but also a fair amount of curiosity to explore less well know regions and find hidden gems that wine explorers and adventurers will enjoy.

What makes your business special?

Our curiosity makes use different and also our courage to step away from mainstream wine regions. The business was founded by two friends with a unique blend of skills, Andrea, a Master of Wine and Rajesh a digital expert with a huge interest in wine. We enjoy the travel and exploration and frequently say…two friends, one vision and a world of possibilities.

What is your most popular seller?

This is little like asking which is our favourite child! Factually our best selling Indian wine is Grovers Art Collection Sauvignon Blanc, Klassik Cuvee a blend of Merlot and Zweigelt is our best performing wine from Austria, even though it is a red and Tyto Alba Tinto is our top wine from Portugal.

Tell us something most people don't know about you or your business

Andrea once bought large quantities of Lambrusco and Liebfraumilch for a major UK player and has been know to have nightmares about Perry being mistaken for wine.

What is your favourite meal?
This is impossible to answer, Andrea enjoys good well cooked food and eats almost anything; with the exception of oysters and bread and butter pudding.

What is your favourite drink?

Wine of course! Choosing one is difficult, from our range it would be Nastl’s Riesling Gigant, more broadly speaking perhaps something from Ribera Del Duero in northern Spain.

Is this your full time job and if not, what else do you do?

Wine is Andrea’s full-time job, in addition to Character Wines she overs training and consultancy services.

Anything new in the pipeline?

Yes most definitely. This summer we visited India again and hope to introduce wines from at least one other Indian winery possibly two.
