Since Mothercare and Woolworths both closed in Hitchin a good few years ago, it's been nearly impossible to buy gifts for pregnant mums and then their babies.
Now, the opening of Jo Jo Maman Bebe on Bancroft (opposite the Garden House Hospice shop) gives us a new outlet.
It's a beautiful shop and the business ethos behind it seems positive - not quite buying local, but perhaps the next best thing.
If nothing else, it brings a good quality High Street brand to Hitchin in place of an empty unit. Our vacancy rate continues to drop and long may that continue.
Every pound spent in Hitchin means more on employing local staff, who use local restaurants and other shops, so there's even less need to leave the town!

Writer and sax player. Brought up in Hitchin and - apart from uni and some ensuing madness of life in London - I've always lived here.
