Rising stronger from the ashes

Christine Low began 'Phoenix and the Lion' as an internet shop in 2012. She said: "I love to mix old and new things together at home and thought that others would feel the same if only they could  find items more easily. I started the shop in Arcade Walk, Hitchin because I missed the interaction with my customers."

Previously, Christine had Philpotts in Sun Street and so Phoenix was the rebirth of a shop for her and the Lion came along for strength.

The shop predominately sells homewares but with greetings cards, jewellery and gifts thrown in. All the items are a mix of vintage, antique and new.

"I sell tiny items such as key charms from 50p up to large chests of drawers for a few hundred pounds and I have all sizes and prices in between," said Christine.

"The aim for 2014 is to open upstairs to give me more space and be able to offer more exciting pieces. Buying antique and vintage means you're buying unique, often one-off pieces that are different to what you can get on the rest of the high street. The uniqueness helps make your house your home."
