After threats of a supermarket or flats, a petition and a march, Hitchin Town Football Club now has a twenty five year lease to expire in 2039.
They can no longer be forced off the Top Field ground and the management committee has thanked everybody who supported their Save Top Field Campaign and in particular those who attended the protest march.
The entire community rallied around and probably suprised Cow Commoner Trustees, planners and developers alike.
A statement on the Club's website says: "The way the whole community came together to support our club in its hour of need has been quite humbling and has only increased the resolve of all our officials to move on to stage two of the campaign which is to build a modern stadium at Top Field that the Hitchin community can be proud of."
So watch this space for information about how we can all contribute to regenerating the stadium.
The Club is preparing to set up a website to take donations and if everyone who signed the petition or marched gave £10, that would be a big chunk of much-needed funds.
