I am far from being a royalist in principle, but there's something endearing about a Royal visit.
So, Hitchin may be missing out on the Olympic Torch, but HRH The Queen is coming to Hitchin (and opening the maternity unit at Lister Hospital) on 14 June. I'm actually quite excited at the prospect.
If you want to check out the route of the Olympic Flame as it goes just across our borders through Letchworth, Graveley and Stevenage, click here: http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/route/

And if you're thinking that Hitchin is looking just a bit smarter, it's thanks to a lot of volunteers who took advantage of the sunshine last weekend to pick up litter. Again, The Comet has done us proud: http://www.thecomet.net/news/gallery_hitchin_litter_campaign_huge_success_1_1393487
We don't need reminding of just how much is going on in and around the town at the moment. Just check out the Market Square any Saturday morning and there'll be somebody there, doing something interesting. There's a lot to be proud of.
Writer and sax player. Brought up in Hitchin and - apart from uni and some ensuing madness of life in London - I've always lived here.
