Hitchin Rugby Football Club is a non-profit organization whose mission is to participate in and promote the sport of rugby at all age levels within the Hitchin area. This includes Mini/ Midi (U7-U12), Youth (U13-U17), Colts (U19), Seniors (19+), Vets (35+) and Ladies. This participation and promotion is accomplished through various means including playing, coaching, refereeing and community development.

 Research has shown that the Hitchin Rugby Club was founded in 1865, some six years before the Rugby Football Union in 1871 and came under the umbrella of the Football Association

The club was reformed in 1954. Highlights have included playing at Twickenham in the final of the national Junior RFU Cup in 1993 and the establishment of the country's first Academy.

Present

As members of the Herts RFU and RFU, Hitchin's 1st XV competes in the London NW3 league whilst the other three senior sides compete in merit tables. All of our youth teams have matches on a regular basis and compete in the Saracens Hertfordshire/Middlesex Leagues and County Championships. See the individual team pages for fixtures, results etc.

The RFUW have recognized Hitchin Ladies consistency and ambitious expansion by promoting them to National Championship league South East North 2.

Currently our membership stands at over 800 people, including active, family and associate members. The majority of our members are everyday working professionals involved with various trades and professions including; students, teachers, designers, lawyers, carpenters, doctors, engineers, police officers and even an Estate Agent.
