Appeals from charities funding research into killer diseases, or debilitating conditions are deeply moving.

The plight of laboratory animals living a short life of intense pain and trauma in captivity is equally distressing.

The great thing about Dr Hadwen Trust is that we no longer need make an agonising choice between alleviating human and animal suffering - we can do both at once.

The Dr Hadwen Trust ensures we are moving towards a day when inflicting pain on animals is not necessary to cure human diseases - and indeed in many cases devises treatments and experiments which are more scientifically grounded, effective, and safe than their animal-tested alternatives.

We should be very proud that the world centre of this ground breaking work is in Hitchen!

This is the most amazing charity funding experiments that do not involve animals, this means that they spare animal lives, do not torture animals and yet they benefit humans with their discoveries. For hundreds of years animals have been abused and killed in experiments to find cures for human ailments. But animals are not humans and their bodies react differently. The Dr. Hadwen Trust funds experiments that truly make progress in fighting human conditions.

Since the Dr Hadwen Trust was founded in 1970 it has pushed forward the boundaries of medical research without the need for animal experimentation. It has worked tirelessly to support universities, hospitals and research organisations to find cures and further our understanding of disease and devastating human illnesses. How wonderful it is that this work is being carried out without the need for animals to suffer. The Dr Hadwen Trust is indeed a remarkable charity, it helps humans whilst showing animals humanity.
I am a proud supporter of the Dr Hadwen Trust and I am sure that Hitchen should be proud to be associated with it too.

I support their continuing campaigns to stop for ever horrendous and unnecessary testing on innocent animals for medical research. They have shown for years that there are alternatives to animal testing, that successful and safer treatment can be assured without the cruelty involving testing on animals. Afterall, animals' dns and human dna do not match
Dr. Hadwen has MPs on their side, as well as huge public support. They have helped convince EU to completely ban animal testing on cosmetics, including ingredients tested elsewhere, which is a huge breakthrough.

The Trust's work makes people question animal experimentation: would humans like to be treated in this way? Just because humans can do something, doesn't mean they should. The trust informs, educates and saves animals' lives by coming up with alternatives. Ground breaking, year in, year out. A local charity of which Hitchin can be so proud.

Human beings have conflicting beliefs and opinions - this is human nature and thank goodness in the UK we have the freedom to voice our varying opinions.

Most people will never do any more than voice what they believe to be right or wrong.

There is only a very small percentage of people that will ever actually take action and create a solution to support their beliefs, providing others with similar views with a vehicle to champion what they believe to be the right thing. I support the Dr Hadwen Trust because they are in that small minority of 'doers'.

Thousands and thousands of people including various academics and scientists support the fact that medical advancement is being hindered by the use of animals in research. Putting the ethics of this argument aside, the Dr Hadwen Trust are an organisation that was created to focus on the advancement of medicine without the use of animals. The founders saw a problem and they created a solution, or some might prefer to say an alternative solution.

Many will just voice their personal beliefs and arguments, but the Dr Hadewn Trust have quietly championed a different way of continuing the fight to find cures and treatments for human disease and illness. Just research their website and you will see the results that they have either directly or in-directly achieved. The results speak for themselves.

I greatly admire the Dr Hadwen Trust and recommend them for the Best of Hitchin Award because they are peaceful doers that have achieved remarkable things both for humans and animals, and they will continue to do so. I am proud to have this charity based locally.
