It seems that enthusiasm for Northern Soul dance is well and truly alive even today, some 30 plus years after it was in its heyday at the famous Wigan Casino. It is interesting to learn that, not only has it survived and florished in the UK but, it's gone global.

Sharon, from Huddersfield's danceology, has always been an enthusiast of Northern Soul dancing. As a talented dancer and dance teacher she realised that there were lots of people all over the country who would love to learn the steps. As a result, she has painstakingly broken down the complex steps and routines so that she can teach Northern Soul Dancing to the large number of enthusiasts who remember Wigan casino and the Northern Soul dance phenomenon, people who perhaps never quite mastered the steps but always had a burning desire to have a go.

All day classes have been very popular at Danceology's studio for some time but in January, Sharon travelled to Rome, Italy, where she held a teaching workshop. The Northern Soul scene in Italy is very vibrant and enthusiasts are of all ages. Sharon's Italian students were all keen to learn, they had 3 hours of tuition in which she taught them various moves - everyone had a great time. An all-nighter followed which was just brilliant with great DJ's and a great mix of music. It was such a success that instead of one event per year they are planning 3 or 4 and Sharon has been invited to teach at all of them. UK enthusiasts will be welcome to go along.

The Italian students now plan to come to the UK for a workshop and all-nighter at the Danceology studio later this year!

So, if you thought Northern Soul was a dance craze which died out in the 70's think again. You may not hear much about it in todays press but there is definitely a large enthusiastic following, not just in the UK but globally.

Sharon has produced several Northern Soul dance tuition DVD's, the latest, her 5th will be out shortly and features some of the popular moves that can be seen on you-tube. Sharon is now looking for fantastic male Northern Soul dancers, who would like to be featured on the DVD, to get in touch.
