Working Smarter in 2011?

 

As business owners we are too often sucked into the daily grind and forget that hard graft is not always the most effective way to move the business forward, sure it’s definitely a pre-requisite but maybe in 2011 you should think about working smarter and not harder. So what exactly does this mean?

  1. Spend time working on the business and not just in it. You need to make a serious commitment to doing this every day. Book yourself a short appointment in your diary and don’t let any excuse get in the way. Use the time to work on the important things that will move the business forward and get you more customers. Maybe it’s your Social Media Strategy, your next marketing campaign, or a referral process for your existing customers? You probably have lots of ideas of things you want to do but never really got around to implementing most of them.
  2. Educate yourself – when was the last time you invested in your education? It could be as simple as buying a book or tracking down useful blogs and e-newsletters online that are relevant to your business, the best ideas are often other peoples that you can make better or add a twist to. See what’s working out there and model it in your business.
  3. Implementation – the sooner you get good at implementing things in your business the more successful you will become. Too many people spend too long getting things ready and never actually getting around to the ‘doing’. It doesn’t have to be perfect, far from it, just get it done!
