Recently Simon and I had our wedding reception at the Dodo Restaurant at Durrell Zoo. It was the most amazing day - it really was everything we had hoped for. Ashley, the manager was so helpful throughout the whole process from the booking and organisation right through to gone midnight on our big day. Nothing was too much for him and his team. We’d happily recommend the Zoo to anyone who wants a really unique day.

Animals are amusing especially the gorillas and the orangutan's a good day out , pleasant cafeteria selection of gateaux to eat in , disabled toilets have easy access. A net should be installed over cafe Firefly outdoor seating area as seagulls are swooping down on tables not pleasant when people are trying to eat and drink.

Beautiful grounds. Very knowledgeable staff. Keepers talks go on throughout the day and are well worth attending for an insight into the animals and the work being done. These are all endangered species. Cafe offers varied menu at reasonable prices.

Nice sight. The animals are not shy of people. You will also see areas where monkeys can simply walk around freely. The unfortunate point is that the ratio of monkeys and other animals is out of balance.

Fantastic place, not so much a zoo, but more a conservation park.
Don't expect the usual animals for profit and cages, but as open park as it can be, with a lot of effort making the animals comfortable.

Worth visiting

Enjoyed seeing animals. Worth a visit if visiting Jersey

Have you read all of Gerald Darell's books? Then this is the place for you! Here is his home and animals in cages and enclosures, littered with tree trunks and overgrown wilds of grass and bushes. In some places, the windows of the cages are blocked with bamboo bars so that the animals pay less attention to you. You are clearly a guest, some animals are always in sight, but more often you need to take a closer look and slowly wander around in order to see someone and find all the secret places of this zoo. During the day, 6 meetings were organized with employees at different enclosures, the animals were fed and they talked about them in a very interesting and enthusiastic way, albeit in English...
Getting there is easy, there are buses all over the island of Jersey, and booklets with timetables and maps are available at the bus station in the center of St. Helier.
We came to the zoo two days in a row because we came to Jersey for the sake of a child who was fascinated by Darell's books. On the second day the entrance ticket was cheaper.
There is also a church of St. Hellera, a 6th-century saint, lived in Jersey, preached the Christian faith, and died, killed by pirates. He is the patron saint of the island.
You can also visit two interesting and picturesque fortresses.
