Be prepared for more traffic problems than usual around Chelsea embankment and south of the river as Albert Bridge will be closing on Monday 15th Feb 2010 around 18 months for a complete renovation.
I love Albert Bridge and think it is the most beautiful bridge in London! The work will go towards keeping it looking as it is whilst also making it better able to cope with the demands of the 21st Century. The Council in partnership with Transport for London will be removing the paint and repainting the bridge, putting in new lights, refurblishing the toll booth and relaying the entire roadway of the bridge.
The bridge will be closed to traffic although pedestrians and cyclists who dismount will still be able to use it. Traffic will be diverted across Chelsea Bridge and Battersea Bridge. For more details click here.
