The Notting Hill Carnival 2010
Back again for another year, the Notting Hill Carnival takes place from Sunday, 29th August to Monday 30th August where the streets of Notting Hill in Kensington and Chelsea will be full of colour, costumes, music, dancing and floats guarantying a lively, festive day out for Londoners of all ages.
Normally the event starts on the Saturday with the steel band competition. Then Sunday is Kids’ Day followed by the main parade which takes place on the Sunday. The Notting Hill Carnival is the largest festival celebration of its kind in Europe and has been taking place each August Bank Holiday since 1966. There are some 50,000 performers and 40 sound systems and around 2.5 million people attend over the weekend.
Normally the route for the carnival covers a loop around West London. Starting on Great Western Rod, then through Chepstow Road on to Westbourne Grove and Ladbroke Grove.
