Plans to build a 4700sqm Tesco, a four-storey hotel and 269 flats on a Tolworth brownfield site are up for discussion once again.
The site, next to Charrington Bowl, would also include a restaurant, cafe and more than 200 parking spaces each for the flats and the supermarket.
Reasons opposed the plan included:
On the contary to the opposition points, the development would see jobs arrive to the area and the revamp of a site which has laid derelict for over ten years.
MP for Kingston and Surbiton Edward Davey has even launched a fresh campaign "Every Little Hurts" where people can sign a petition.
He wrote an open letter to residents stating:
Dear resident,
This week coming, Tescos plans for Tolworth will come before Councillors at the South of the Borough Neighbourhood meeting for discussion.
On 7th February it will then be going to the full meeting of the Council's Development Control Committee.
The proposal from Tesco includes a 400sqm superstore, a hotel and flats.
To support this, they are proposing to: widen the two arms of the roundabout that cross the A3 by removing the white hatch markings and creating a fourth lane of traffic install a new signalled pedestrian crossing on the south bound slip road between the roundabout and Hook Rise South new signalled access into the site on the Kingston Road at the junction with Lansdowne Close As your MP I have campaigned with your Liberal Democrat Focus Team against these plans â our reasons for this can be found
http://www.everylittlehurts.co.uk/, but we need your help.
We need you to email Kingston Council with your views on the application to development.management@rbk.kingston.gov.uk , make sure to include your name and address and to ask for an acknowledgement.
With kind regards,
Edward Davey MP
