25 YEARS OF ‘PLAYS IN THE PARK’ BY THE DUKES LANCASTER
One of the pleasures of running thebestof Lancaster is to be able to tell people, both local and those visiting the area, about some of the fantastic facilities that we have here in this City.
One of the Jewels in the Crown must be The Dukes, that multi-faceted facility that serves the local community in so many varied ways – Cinema, The Round, The Rake, DT3, The Gallery and The Café Bar.
But the thing that I would like to highlight today is their annual Play in the Park, held in Williamson Park, which is celebrating a remarkable 25 years this year, with the production of Merlin and the Legend of King Arthur on 8th July until 13th August.
For me outdoor theatre is a truly magical thing because my first introduction to theatre as a young child was to be taken to an outdoor performance of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream held in the park at Warwick Castle.
And the 50 acre Williamson Park is the most perfect setting for outdoor theatre utilising its many features including the Ashton Memorial, woodland walks and dells, ornamental lake and waterfall, as well as the stunning views over Lancaster and Morecambe Bay.
Also why not visit the exhibition at the Judges Lodgings 25 years of Plays in the Park where you can discover and explore props, programmes, press and memories. Information at http://www.dukes-lancaster.org/event/judges-lodgings-25-years-plays-park.
So why not grab your picnic, sword and shield and come with the Dukes on their most magical medieval adventure yet?To find more about Merlin and the Legend of King Arthur, performance times and to book tickets, or to see what else is happening at the Dukes go to http://www.dukes-lancaster.org/whats-on.
Support the Dukes Theatre and Cinema because they most certainly are one of The Best of Lancaster!
