Harbury Energy Initiative are in the final to try and win £100,000 for the village, to be spent on energy based (saving or producing) projects for the School, Church, Wight School, Village Hall and Rugby Club.
The village beat off competition from 1,000 groups to reach the final 100 and now there are only six left in our group, including the likes of Greater Manchester (population 2.6m) and Sheffield.
It is now in the hands of the public to determine whether the initiative will win £100,000 to spend on renewable energy projects in and around Harbury. The aim is to reduce the village’s carbon footprint, as well as the running costs of community buildings. The winner will simply be the one with the most votes.
Not only will it benefit the village itself, but the injection of cash will support the local community as a whole. By securing the funding it will ensure that money is spent locally with businesses such as the specialist contractors who will be installing the new technologies.
Voting opened on Tuesday 15th November and closes on 3rd December, culminating in an event in London at which the winners are announced.
