There was a ‘big surprise’ for residents at a local care home, when a group of five to seven-year olds went down to the home for a special teddy bear picnic.
Care UK’s Priors House care home, on Old Milverton Lane, hosted the visit to mark International Picnic Day, with residents and pupils enjoying a specially-prepared picnic together.
Home manager at Priors House, Francine Summers, explains: “We have a very close relationship with The Kingsley School, so were delighted to welcome the Year One and Year Two pupils in to the home again. The communication, interactions and affection between residents and the children was heart-warming to see – they loved spending time with each other. Naturally, as it was a teddy bear picnic, we played lots of wonderful games in the garden and enjoyed lots of marvellous things to eat, so it really was a treat of a day for all.
“We are always looking for innovative ways to involve residents in activities and encourage new friendships, and this session was a great opportunity to create special bonds across the generations – young and older people alike really benefit from the social interaction. We look forward to another visit from the pupils very soon!”
Residents and pupils enjoyed taking part in a range of intergenerational activities on the day, including teddy bear role-play, outdoor games and biscuit decorating.
