Recent research reveals that many women would think twice before calling in a male electrician to carry out essential work with some finding the experience daunting.
According to a survey of 3,000 women by NICEIC nearly half (47%) of female home owners admit to feeling intimidated when having to deal with a male electrician while 11% confess that they’ll only have a man around if they’re not alone.
The NICEIC is running a campaign to encourage more women into the electrical industry in 2011. Despite making up half the UK workforce, women are severely underrepresented in trade professions, which are traditionally seen as male only occupations. But with many customers preferring to hire female electricians, there is now a good business case for more women to become professional electricians.
Highlighting the demand for more female electricians to be available the survey also showed that half (50%) would feel more comfortable if faced with a female contractor and a third (31%) divulged they’re more likely to trust a lady electrician’s opinion over a man’s. More than a quarter (26%) said it would make a refreshing change to see a woman in charge of the tools.
360 electrics has employed a female apprentice electrician for the last 12 months. Jessica Barry has just completed her first year apprenticeship at Leamington College and has successfully passed her City and Guilds 2330 practical and theory examinations.
If you’re one of those women that would prefer to be faced with a female electrician and would like to meet Jess please give us a call on 01926 702725.
