Picked this place as a stop off on the way home from a short break on a Friday. Had never been here before. Had just three hours to spare and enjoyed every minute. What a lovely, interesting place. Cathedral is early English with three whopping great spires, so easy to see and guide your way into the centre of this charming old town. Nice big car park between cathedral and market place. Free entry to the cathedral but make a donation to support this lovely building and buy the £5 guide book - well worth it. Uncluttered inside due to Victorian restoration, it enables you to appreciate the fine architecture and stained glass. The main front is a glorious mass of statues of saints and monarchs. Spent two happy hours there and afterwards enjoyed lunch of savoury Staffordshire oatcakes (very nice) in the Georgian cathedral tearooms nearby. A quick browse around the antique shops in the streets linking cathedral and market place and a look at the stsues of Dr Johnson and Boswell on the market place and we had to leave. We shall certainly come back for more.

I have visited Lichfield and the Cathedral there many times over the years. The inside of the Cathedral is beautiful and is well worth a stroll around.

Walking round the two nearby pools - Minster and Stowe - give stunning views of the three spires.

Lovely place for contemplation.

Well worth a visit to see this gorgeous gem which is full of history. Wow! The architecture the music, the design and everything in between. You do not need to be a church going person to appreciate this beauty.

Called in today, started with coffee and cake in the cafe...then looked round the beautiful building.....stayed to have communion at the lunchtime service....the minister taking the service (didn't get his name) was lovely...friendly, and able to deliver a good short message..... Returned to the cafe for lunch which we enjoyed in the lovely garden. A visit to the shop to buy some good quality products (not "tourist" rubbish).. all in all a lovely way to spend a few hours.

Absolutely gorgeous impressive cathedral in stunning position. The only Medieval English cathedral with 3 spires. Amazing stained glass and art. Felt privileged to see the Lichfield Angel in the beautiful Chapter House which also houses the precious illuminated St Chads gospel which we were told was the second oldest one in England after Lindisfarne. We visited this fabulous Cathedral twice during the weekend we visited Lichfield. Well worth visiting. A beautiful building.

We have visited Lichfield Cathedral on 3 occasions. It is a truly memorable experience and you are made to feel so welcome by those who work there. It is also one of the few Cathedrals that do not charge an entrance fee. There is so much to see there of historical importance ; the Anglo Saxon hoard , the amazing stained glass windows, the shrine of St Chad, the beautiful Lady Chapel and early eight century manuscripts. We felt very privileged to be there.

This is a brilliant place to go. Look out for the tomb of the bishop( near the font) who is just a skeleton. The anglo saxon jewellery is amazing. The widows tell stories and my children were fascinated

Beautiful building,we were lucky to time our visit today at 2pm when there was a free guided visit, which was lead by Robert,(think that was his name) Anyway,it was a very interesting talk, which was fresh and enthusiastic, I was the guy on the mobility scooter and I was able to get to all the places where Robert described the buildings history.Well done.

We called in on spec while passing through and found the quality of display and interpretation of items of great antiquity to be way beyond anywhere else we have visited. From the welcome at the door and throughout our visit the team were quietly attentive and answered questions skilfully.

Not only the cathedral is well worth visiting but the Erasmus Darwin museum nearby is well worth a visit too. If you have younger children the park is a great place to go to. There also plenty of nice shops and a lot of very nice cafes. The market on Saturday offers a good selection of items. If you want to dine in the evening plenty of choice too. I recommend both the Thai restaurants.

I have seen many churches and cathedrals around the world and I think Lichfield is up there among some of the best of them. Lichfield has also other places of interest to visit as well as many cafes to make a very pleasant day out.
