Fabulous evening which saw the cathedral and its architecture lit up slowly with candles. Amazing atmosphere and the choir just topped it all.

I don't understand why this building isn't more well-known than it is! The frontage is simply magnificent ... just so many & such detailed stone carvings! Just breath-taking. Sometimes a detailed exterior hides a plain interior but Lichfield Cathedral does not disappoint with beautiful vaulted ceilings, stunning stained glass windows & magnificent arches. Well worth a visit (& it's free entry)

Lichfield Cathedral is such a nice place to visit and is the jewel in Lichfield's crown. It's steeped in history and the architecture is amazing. It has survived the English civil war and still bears the scars of the roundheads. The location of the Cathedral gives views of some of the loveliest properties surrounding it. A walk round Minster Pool gives another perspective of this beautiful building and whether you see it in its full glory in the sunshine or see the three spires against a frosty morning, you cannot fail to be impressed. I always take visitors to the Cathedral and everyone just loves it. We are so lucky to have this on our doorstep. A walk down Dam Street approaching the Cathedral from another direction is equally awe inspiring. Inside there is plenty to see especially military regalia from local regiments.

Have visted many Cathedrals throughout traveling around the UK and this is one of the most majestic.
From the three spires on the out side to the carefully located nativity on the inside this place is a joy.
Very peaceful, windows are beautiful, staff were knowledgable about the history of this building and willing to point out other points on interest within.
you are welcome to sit for some quite reflection or join in the prayers held at intervals during the day.
Thank you for making of visit well worth the time x

Visited this cathedral in November, The detail in the carvings is superb both inside and out, you can even make out the expressions on the carved faces. Lovely stained glass windows, Vaulted ceilings and some superb Marble carvings. Guides inside the cathedral were very helpful and informative.
A must see place if your in Litchfield - A Magnificent Building!

A truly beautiful cathedral in the historic city of Lichfield. Superbly maintained and a very welcoming place to visit.

I visited after the local tourist info place next to the cathedral had closed. I had wanted to see the Book of Teilo, renamed the Book of St Chad after its theft from Wales, but it appears that it is also in the tourism place. If you visit without information from its tourist shop, it is very disappointing.

You really shouldn't visit Lichfield without setting some time aside to visit the cathedral.

The facade over the main entrance is nothing short of stunning. The interior boasts some equally impressive stained glass windows.

To help with your visit a pamphlet (free) is available to guide you round. There are also guides in the cathedral who are knowledgeable, and willing to answer questions.

Free to enter, although a donation is requested which can be as much or as little as you want (suggested amount £5.00 per person). There is certainly no pressure for you to pay anything whatsoever.

Photography is allowed throughout the cathedral, apart from Chapter House.

My wife and I spent a very enjoyable two hours looking round, and would happily visit again.

This Cathedral goes back to the middle ages and still has many original features preserved - the history of the building is absolutely fascinating and probably one of the best ways of viewing it is to go around with a guide who will point out those easily missed features of interest e.g. Medieval Graffiti.
This Cathedral has a lot to offer those who are seriously interested in history - if you just want to walk around quickly, half an hour will be plenty - its quite big, otherwise a half day will soon disappear - if you are interested in the musical offerings, then choral evensong is song mid afternoon most days by the choir school.
The Cathedral is widely used for concerts as well as church services.

You can tell where the Cathedral is because its spires are always within view!
Although I visited during a practice for a combined schools carol service there still remained a feeling of reverence and holiness.
All points of interest were well detailed and there was space for personal reflection.
An unassuming and yet powerful place, no doubt a shelter for many in their own storm of life!

Though Lichfield is no longer a major city, years ago the Cathedral was a major site, alongside Canterbury and York. The building reflects this, so whether Religion or Architecture is your thing, I am sure you will enjoy your visit, especially as some pieces of the Staffordshire Hoard are on display.

It's a fantastic piece of architecture...
Well worth a visit!!
Just having a look at the outside is
Breathtaking...
Inside is very somber and extremely interesting even if you're not from Lichfield.

Beautiful cathedral with numerous stained glass windows. The Lichfield Angel carving dating back to 700 A.D. was uncovered during an excavation to install the unique Nave Altar which can be raised and lowered according to the usage of the cathedral. Unfortunately, St. Chad's Gospels was on `on loan' to the National History museum for an exhibition but there IS a video of it in the Chapter House. Well worth a visit.

Very, very nice the cathedral was largely empty when we arrived and so enjoyed a free wonder after receiving excellent instructions and descriptions with point and places of interest to see from the helpful and informative guides. Sadly the organ was just being started and "warming" up or gaining air! But not disappointed

This is definitely a gem in the historic small city of Lichfield. It is enormous, imposing and Gothic though we were surprised to be told that its the 3rd smallest cathedral in england. You can easily spend an hour or 2 exploring it. The cathedral shop is also worth a visit

This is a lovely place to visit and is not just an imposing structure but a real piece of history. I visited on a Saturday but it wasn't notably busy and you could just drift around the artefacts at your own pace. Most pleasing to see were the number of volunteers who were on hand to help with their knowledge and this made the day much more enjoyable and interesting. Some of the ancient finds and coins were on show and particularly interesting. It's certainly one of the finest cathedrals around and I can't imagine anyone feeling disappointed. It's free after all but you do feel it is deserving of a donation when you leave. Great for learning and meeting such friendly people. If you are local and have got friends or family staying with you this is an ideal place to impress!

The cathedral is a superb example of a medieval cathedral. It is large and spacious with a nice 'feel'. All the staff are helpful and the shop has lots of things for all prices to remember your visit. If you are lucky enough to visit when there is a concert or choir on, so much the better the sound is unbelievable. Well worth a visit. Near Christmas they have trees decorated by schools and other groups that are very nice to see and judge.

Its a cathedral like no other. Very Gothic in its appearance it has an air of darkness about it.

I enjoyed spending some time wandering around the grounds with my Nikon taking some spectacular photographs.

Well worth a visit.

This is the warmest ecclesiastical building I've ever visited, whether it full of people or just a few casual visitors. Christmas is a good time to go, to see the crib. The cathedral arranges many concerts and events, mainly in the evenings which are well worth attending. Traditional cathedral otherwise.

The Cathedral dominates the city of Lichfield and is well worth a visit. The Building has a Majestic West Front with statues depicting various Saints and Kings of Mercia still in situ. Once inside, I was greeted by a helpful guide and there is plenty of literature for the visitor. and there is plenty to see once inside the Cathedral. When I was there, (05.11.15), the Cathedral was in the middle of a massive re-wiring project and so access to parts of the North and South Aisle was at times limited, The main attractions, the Chapter House and St. Chad's Head Chapel are well worth a visit. The Stained Glass in the Lady Chapel, originally from Herekenrode Abbey has now been renovated and is back into the windows. These windows are worth a visit alon, but there is so much History and the Cathedral is home to the Lichfield Gospels, dating back to Saxon times and generally on display in the Chapter House (At the moment they are in the British Museum in London). There is an excellent gift and book shop where there are guide books and where photography Permits are available, currently costing £3.00. There is also a gift shop on the Cathedral, in the South West Corner of the Cathedral, but whilst the re-wiring is being done, the only book/gift shop is in the Close. There is also a Well worth a visit and like most Cathedrals, best go round on a guided tour and then go round again to get the photographs.

Despite extensive restoration and rebuilding, the earliest parts of Lichfield cathedral date back over 800 years. It is built of sandstone and has the distinction of being the only medieval Gothic style cathedral with three spires. Of particular note are the flemish stained glass windows which are extremely elaborate and colourful.
