I love visiting Cathedrals! We were warmly welcomed and the volunteers seemed knowledgeable and happy to chat. We wandered around happily taking photos. Several areas seem cluttered with 'church junk'.making a small Cathedral seem smaller still; and there seemed to be a lot of people carrying out tasks busily while we were there, making it feel more like a museum than a place of worship. I couldn't find a quiet space for prayer and the tiny Chapter house is full of bits of the Staffordshire hoard. All in all...a lovely building.

I visited Litchfield Cathedral with family - having seen other cathedrals, perhaps I have been too lucky - I didn't feel quite the same atmosphere as I have in several others. Photography is fine - no flash photography in the Chapter House, housing the Staffordshire hoard. To me, the cathedral seemed small - but, I have visited others built on a larger scale.
The cathedral itself was built in the 1100s, however, the Victorian aspects inside are visibly much more modern and seem a little messy in the space. Friendly volunteers happy to talk. I recommend this as a good place to visit if visiting the area.

Lichfield Cathedral is one of the nicest in England from the outside, with its three spires and slightly elevated position. It isn't as central within the city as you might expect, but there is a pleasant circular walk across the river - with a really nice park to also see or rest in. There is a nice grassy area in front of the main entrance to the cathedral, meaning you can get far enough back to take good pictures of the building. Once inside It is rather understated, but profits from the lack of tourist hordes trying to take their "selfies".

This Cathedral is I think the only 3 spired one in England. The Logo of Lichfield features the 3 Spires.
.
Go all round the outside of the cathedral to see all the fantastic ornate architecture and figures before you go inside.
.
The inside cannot be satisfactory explained as you have to see it for your self ALL is magnificent - equal or better than many Italian churches and cathedrals we have visited over the years
.
For any UK or outside visitors it is well worth the time to see it.

Beautiful piece of architecture.
If in the area, this is worth a detour.
For some reason this is one of the places that seems to be overlooked by overseas tourists so it is quieter than many similar places. Historic city on a river with beautiful and historic architecture.

A great cultural marvel in the heart of an historic city with vibrant character, its current Battle of the Somme expedition was very heartwarming as well in such a magnificent building. A must see for any visitor to Lichfield, especially with free entry!

Possibly one of the most beautiful cathedrals I have seen, free though they ask for a donation at the door and it is definitely worth a donation. Very pretty, a shame that the bell tower is not open at the moment.

Went to Lichfield cathedral and the town center the cathedral is a lovely old building with plenty of history the people of Lichfield are friendly , we had a couple of meals at the cathedral cafe and it was nice and fresh we will definitely go back . The cathedral is free entry but do like you to make a donation to help with the upkeep of the building.

This was a free experience and was absolutely beautiful and moving. It started with a typical living room of the time from which soldiers would be departing for France. You walked through a field of poppies and on through a 'tunnel' into France. You could listen to readings recorded by people such as Eddie Redmayne and the Archbishop of Canterbury etc. There were lots of seats whereby you could sit and listen or just reflect.
Limited numbers of people were admitted at a time to keep the right atmosphere and get the most out of the experience.

We had an hour to spare this morning so had a walk around the cathedral. The architecture is amazing, and inside the staff are friendly and helpful. Free entry but donations are welcome.

Living so close and visiting the city often we tend to take the tourist locations. But the cathedral is a superb asset and well worth a few hours browsing every nook and cranny.

whilst well-familiar with the cathedral, we went specifically for the "Journey to the Somme" exhibition, taking friends who had not been before. Our friends were particularly interested in much of the history, including the Staffordshire Hoard exhibition in the Chapter House.
Admission is free and visitors are invited without any pressure to make a donation towards the upkeep.

The landmark is monumental. It is interesting to fantasize how the view of this cathedral influenced the life and thoughts of Erasmus Darwin in the Enlightenment period.

The cathedral is stunning of course. But it's brought to life by those who volunteer and work to use the building to help people understand the here and now. I was fortunate to make my first visit to the cathedral yesterday and so learn about the evening's commemoration of the Somme centenary. What a moving event - using the fabric of the cathedral as the backdrop for an absorbing use and sound and light. It was moving and sad and yet more than remembrance - the relevance to the loss we continue to experience is clear to see.

This is a truly remarkable building. The exteriors is so ornate it must surely be one of our finest cathedrals.
The interiors is also fascinating. To visit is free but they gently ask for a voluntary donation.
If you are ever in Lichfield I absolutely recommend visiting this. The location is also great and there is a lot of interesting places nearby too.

It goes without saying that this is a stunning cathedral, inside and out, and well worth a visit at any time. However, if you can arrange your visit to coincide with the guided tour conducted by Linda Hoskins you will have your pleasure and knowledge lifted to another level. Linda is not only a fount of information, she will show you how to 'read' the stained glass windows here and in other cathedrals and churches. And the stained glass in Lichfield is incredibly beautiful, as is the rest of the building. It has such peace in this troubled world.

An outstanding example of an early English Cathedral, many memorable features : the stone carvings defaced by Parliamentary soldiers sharpening their swords, possibly the earliest Anglo Saxon carving in this country, examples of the amazing Staffordshire hoard discovered nearby in 2016, the unique Lichfield Gospels. 16 century Flemish stained glass windows Opportunities for a quiet retreat......much more. Small fee for photographic licence, but no entrance charge (donations welcomed) Small, interesting shop opposite in the Close and a variety of refreshments at Chapters in the Close.

A great medieval cathedral with three spires (the only one in the UK with three spires). A nice peaceful place to go and see the architecture.
