Beautiful cathedral and lovely to be able to access it for a donation. So many cathedrals charge an entrance fee now. Staff were all very welcoming.

,Went with a group to Lichfield. The Festival wasnt as big as usual because council charge £20+ extra. Usually its ram packed. This plus rain spoilt it a bit. So instead if wandering round the stalls as I would have liked with no good on coat or umbrella I went into shops. McDonald's for tea and chicken wrap, craft and secondhand shop mostly. I bought some wool for #bagsofhope, went into Lichfield Methodist Church and had a lovely chat. There will be #bagsofhope in Lichfield. Met some lovely stall and shop keepers. Learnt a lot. Didn't go into Darwin's gardens or Lichfield Cathedral but will do another time

Whenever I go on a National Coach Holiday I try and take in the architecture of the area that I am visiting, this always seems to include a Church. I have been to Litchfield a few times now and the Cathedral is usually on my list of destinations. The original stonework needs plenty of TLC as the ravages of time and pollution make it look a scruffy building from the outside. But get closer and study the detail above the main entrance of all the depicted figures, a whole row of the many king's of this country's past, fascinating. Inside, like many Cathedrals, an architectural delight, entrance is free but a donation is hinted at. The alter, ailes and pews need your attention, Litchfield, like Churches around the country, need more than just a quick look around. They need a little of your time to admire the craftsmanship within these houses of God, and you don't need to be religious to do that.

This is a splendid location with its imposing facade where many characters are sculpted. The interior is epic with its lofty roof. The stained glass windows at the sanctuary end are impressive. This cathedral was caught up in the civil war and was restored afterwards. The spires are seen from the herb garden of Darwin's house in Lichfield.
