We visited the Museum almost on the spur of the moment and we are glad we did. The curator was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable, providing huge detail about Samuel Johnson (and quite a few others!). Definitely worth the time.

This Birthplace Museum is well worth visiting, especially if you are interested in literary matters. The story of the life of Samuel Johnson is comprehensive, and is told right from the initial introductory film, through the rooms at many levels of the house to the ladies (guides) who bring it to life. The relationships of the Johnsons, Garricks and Darwin families etc. are fascinating. The pictures, portraits and many books, records etc. all add to comprehensive picture provided.

This is a gem of a museum. I knew Johnson wrote a dictionary but there was so much more to him. The exhibits are well displayed and explained in authentic surrounding. Not to be missed.

Didn't know that we had this venue. Glad I do now. Worth a visit it's a like the TARDIS small frontage but huge within. A small shop, interactive activities, toilets, lifts and stairs. Worth visiting for certain.

Although it might not seem to be a very large house to visit, it has enough interest to make a visit worthwhile. As keen readers we really enjoyed the story of Samuel Johnson and his contribution to the English dictionary.

We had a wonder round here one Saturday morning. Nice little second hand book shop on ground floor followed by lots of rooms with exhibits in and interesting items to look at. Another excellent free attraction in Lichfield.

Well worth a visit if you're in Lichfield, it's free and takes week over an hour. The bloke on the desk at the front door obviously loves his job and his subject.

Based in the very centre of Lichfield and right next to a busy thriving market you will find Johnson's birthplace and childhood home. What a great little museum you can really imagine the family living there. From the basement kitchen where he spent hours reading to the very top of the house where the servants had their rooms it is all fascinating. You'll learn about his family life, his school years, his time at university and what he did next. You feel for him as he goes through ups and downs in life and you get an insight into his friendships and relationships. You'll find a copy of the famous dictionary and hear his ideas, what a wag! I loved it and I'm sure you will too.

There are two Johnson houses 🏡 one in London which did see sometime ago I think I judge this being slight superior it large house house with display on each floor some use of audio equipment and helpful video, talks about his life and put him in context of other figures from his time. you can actually look up words in copy of his famous dictionary.
