It transpired that the swan had flown into a wall and landed on a car, damaging itself and smashing the windscreen of the parked car.
Luckily, the RSPCA successfully collected the swan and treated it, and a few weeks later contacted the council’s parks team to ask whether there were any single swans on Minster Pool.
Lyn Hammant, Historic Parks Manager for Lichfield District Council, said: “We were worried that one of Beacon Park’s two resident swans had been missing for a few weeks, and so were delighted when the RSPCA contacted us about this swan. We asked them to bring it to Beacon Park to see if it was our swan’s missing partner.
“It was touch and go for a while as to whether they would bond, but the swans have not left one another’s sides since they were reunited. As swans mate for life, we are especially pleased that they are back together again.”
Having lived either in or close to Lichfield for nearly 40 years I've come to love the city very much.
