Choose Joy!

I have recently conducted a small survey and asked men and women, ‘what would you say your level of Joy is on a day to day basis?’

  • Interesting point no.1; most people don’t really know the difference between Joy and Pleasure.

Definitions:

Joy = When we are striving towards our potential and our life has purpose and meaning

Pleasure = An activity that is done for enjoyment.  E.g. eating one of Deb’s amazing Anzac biscuits at Melbourne in Lichfield coffee shop…

  • Interesting point no.2; 90% of the surveyed adults said their current level of Joy is at approx. 5/10.

I know that the truth is being told in point no.2 as I am the Face Whisperer.  I am an expert in Facial Expressions of Emotion.  I help businesses and individuals get to the truth by understanding how their consumers/staff/clients or they themselves really feel.

Have you ever thought about what the face reveals?

Without realising it every single day of your life you are making judgements and perceptions about what people’s faces reveal to you (sometimes rightly and sometimes wrongly…).

I love this quote from Coco Chanel

“Nature gives you the face you have at twenty. Life shapes the face you have at thirty. But at fifty you get the face you deserve.”

I totally believe this to be true based on the 1,000’s of faces I have analysed over the last 10 years.  There are 43 muscles in the face that can make over 10,000 facial expressions.  Like any muscle in the body, if you use it a lot, it grows.  The facial expressions you use the most, those muscles develop in the face and it is written all over your face how you predominantly feel, particularly as you get older. (Sorry)

Now, I know you are all diving for the mirror to see what your faces say!  If you have lots of crow’s feet wrinkles, good!  This means you smile a lot.  How about a crease on your forehead between your brows?  You probably concentrate a lot or are angry?  I’ll leave that for you to decide.

If you work in the service industry, have you thought about what you want your customers to see as they enter your establishment?  I know from some training we have done with front of house staff in hotels and restaurants that by really understanding the faces of your customers, sales can increase by 20% - now that’s worth having!

There is a myth that it takes more muscles to frown than smile, well that’s not true.  I guarantee the use of more muscles and smiling genuinely will bring you massive wins!  JOY.

Is there anything about the face or emotions you’d like to know more about?  I’m open to suggestions and I will write about it for you.
