Enjoy Chris While & Julie Matthews this weekend!
The 2009 BBC Folk Award winners have an international following, with their carefully crafted songs and musicianship which goes past clichés to embrace many different forms and genres of music.
Chris While plays guitar, bodhran, banjo, dulcimer and percussion, and Julie Matthews plays guitar, piano, bouzouki, mandolin and harmonica, and whilst their songs have been performed and recorded by many other artists, they really come to life in the hands of these two performers.
Their career has seen them play at many festivals, with sold out performances at many venues. Their songs ranged from plangent ballads to politically pointed songs. They write about life as they see it, from the industrial waste lands of the north, to social injustice and freedom, to songs about love and relationships and everyday life.
Lichfield Arts Director Chris Newcombe said: ‘Chris While and Julie Matthews are one of the most popular duo’s performing on the folk circuit. They are excellent multi-instrumentalists and singers who have written some timeless songs which still resonate today. They are planning a break from touring in 2012 so make sure to catch them at the Guildhall this time around!
The concert, on Saturday November 12th starts at 8.00pm with tickets for the concert costing £14 full price, £13 for concessions, £12 for members and £7 for students.
