Help make your local park more beautiful at a bulb planting day at Shortbutts Park on Sunday 25 September at 2pm

Along with a group of volunteers, Lichfield District Council is hosting a Daffodil Day at Shortbutts Park this September.

The day is one of two autumn bulb planting events, when lots of bulbs will be planted across the park.

As well as daffodils, crocuses and cyclamen will be planted by volunteers, and everyone is welcome to roll up their sleeves and join in with the group effort.

Councillor Neil Roberts, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Development Services, said: “Everyone who lives near or uses Shortbutts Park is invited to come along and help with the bulb planting.

“There will be lots of trowels and pairs of gardening gloves available, as well as coffee and biscuits, and even a gazebo in case it rains. You are of course welcome to use your own trowel and gloves if you prefer. And, if you have trouble bending down, bring a spade or a bulb planter, if you have one.

“We’re also keen for new additions to the park - especially climbing plants and hardy ground cover plants, such as geranium and alchemilla. So, if you have any plants to spare, please bring them with you. You could always swap any that are not used in the park with other volunteer gardeners on the day.”

The Daffodil Day is taking place at Shortbutts Park on Sunday 25 September. The group will be meeting at 2pm at Shortbutts Lane car park. The volunteer event is free and open to anyone, although children must be accompanied by an adult.
