Headteacher Susan Hannam said: “I am proud of each and every student and their individual achievements are proof that having high expectations and maintaining a positive attitude to learning reap rewards. Our Year 11 students have approached their learning with determination and good humour and we thank them for contributing positively to the Cathedral School Community. These excellent GCSE results were only made possible by committed and caring teachers and school staff supporting students through every step of the way, helping each one to understand and achieve their potential. I also thank all of our students’ families for working in partnership with us and for the support they have shown the School and each other.”
Deputy Head Andrew Harrison added: “As a non-selective school, we offer a curriculum designed to enable each student to grow in confidence and maturity, whilst providing the knowledge and skills needed for their next challenge. As always, behind the headline figures there are outstanding stories of students who have achieved or exceeded their own targets having overcome significant challenges and hurdles. We are thrilled by the successes of every student.”
“In the context of a nation-wide reduction in top grades being awarded, we would like to highlight a few students who exemplify the achievement of our Year 11. Students who achieved grades equivalent to A**-A in all subjects included Evie Lowe who gained eight grade 9s and one grade 8; Luke Pritchard who achieved seven grade 9s and two 8s; and Bailey Homer who was awarded five grade 9s, two grade 8s and two grade 7s. In addition, Iona Lillico was awarded three grade 9s, four grade 8s and one grade 7, while Raphael Crump gained three grade 9s, one grade 8, two grade 7s and a Distinction*. Two of our Year 9 pupils took language GCSEs early and both achieved grade 9s: Jasmine Garner (German) and Jessica Murphy (Spanish).”
Susan Hannam added: “While we are pleased that so many students have achieved academic success this year, what matters most to us is that our students are well-rounded young people filled with compassion for others and the desire to make a difference to the world. I look forward to welcoming them, and our growing number of new students, to our fabulous Sixth Form in September to continue an educational journey that is challenging and fun in equal measure.”
